Step into the captivating world of scent detection with our Intro to Nosework Class, where your dog will begin their journey as a scent-savvy sleuth. In this engaging, fast-paced class, you’ll bond with your dog while learning how to condition them to recognize and respond to a specific scent.

What You’ll Learn:
  • Scent Introduction: We will condition birch oil as your dog’s first target scent and guide your dog in detecting it.
  • Basic Search Techniques: Develop your dog’s ability to search and indicate the location of hidden scents.
  • Building Confidence: Encourage your dog to work independently, gaining confidence as they successfully complete each search.

This class is perfect for dogs of all ages and skill levels, especially those looking for a mentally stimulating and engaging activity.

Additional Information:
  • This is a fast-paced class, and weekly homework assignments will be given to reinforce what we work on in class. To get the most out of the experience, it’s essential to complete the homework each week.
  • Your class fee includes the beginning of your scent kit, which will be sent home in Week 1 so you can continue the fun and practice at home.
What our Students have to say:

“Milo and I love nosework at Canadian Canine College! It builds his confidence, strengthens our bond, and gives him a fun, productive outlet. We can practice anywhere, making it both rewarding and practical. Bronwyn is a fantastic trainer —knowledgeable, supportive, and she is great at bringing out the best in every dog. Highly recommend!” — Lisa M.

“Nosework is a fun activity that will give your dog a mental workout, reducing stress and anxiety and allowing them to use one of their natural gifts – the amazing canine nose! You can do it with very minimal equipment and investment in gear and it can be done indoors, outdoors or wherever you and your dog happen to be. It requires no advanced fitness level on the part of you or your dog and you can make it as simple or as complicated as your dog needs. Older dogs can enjoy nosework, too, as it’s not overly physical or strenuous on the body (theirs or yours!). It builds your dog’s confidence as they make the “finds” and it also strengthens the bond between the two of you as you work together as a team.

Our Willow is a young Miniature Long-Haired Dachshund with lots of energy and enthusiasm. She gets super-excited when the scent kit comes out of the cupboard and her tail wags the entire time she is searching the scent cone. Twenty minutes to half an hour of “searches” after a walk lets her burn off any pent-up energy, and the intense concentration and focus nosework demands are as tiring – or more – than physical exercise. After one of our sessions, Willow is happy to have a long drink and then curl up with us to relax for the evening. As an owner, I find it so rewarding to watch my dog enjoying something she is bred for, directing her energy and drive into a positive activity that we both love.” — Christine C.
